It's adapted from a British investigative journalist's 2004 non-fiction book, and the New Age lieutenant colonel who founds the unit on screen is modelled on the real officer who wrote that unit's 1979 field manual — a document proposing soldiers who could levitate, bend spoons and walk through walls.
